This was my first Lucy Atkins book and I'm hooked already! From page one I was drawn in and I didn't want to put it down.

A heavily pregnant Tess has just relocated to the US with her husband Greg. Him being a top class surgeon means there are more opportunities for him there.

However from the outset things just don't go smoothly for them. The neighbours are different from her friends back home. They're cold and distant and on the whole, disinterested. On top of all this Tess is having to deal with the fact that she is not entirely sure whether Greg actually wants this baby. He's so focused on work and has little time for her and her son.

She drags him to a potluck that's being hosted by one of the neighbours but even that ends in disaster and she comes to realize that Greg is really the only one enjoying life in the US.

I got so frustrated with him as a character! He never has time to comfort Tess or ease her woes. He's always "too busy" or "too tired" or he has too much on his mind. Everytime she tried to get him to open up he closes off completely.

As the book develops Tess comes to the conclusion that she doesn't really know the man she's married too.

The book is paced fairly evenly. The writing is very descriptive and just enough is revealed in each chapter to draw you into the next.

The other child is a really gripping read especially for those interested in mysteries and family tenison

Highly recommended.
