As more photos appear, the police suspect that Stephani has hired someone to take these photos. She before she can convince the police to take her seriously she is kidnapped. While imprisoned she discovers why she has been having these visions and it is more chilling than she ever imagined. Can she make it out alive?
I love books. I can be found reading when I should be doing the washing up,
tidying up and various other things.
Sometimes, I read books by authors that I don't usually read I wish I
hadn't but this time it was well worth my while. Sleep then My Princess by O.
N. Stefan was one book that was worth the effort and maybe I'll have to
reconsider my thoughts on this in future.
Sleep then my Princess is a dark thriller and follows a woman who is
grieving the loss of her husband and a child in a coma. Emotionally, she's a
wreck and trying to keep it together. Stephani Robbins works as a tissue
engineer at the cutting edge of trials in regrowing breast tissue for
transplanting into patients who have had a mastectomy.
Her 'ordinary' life is turned upside down when someone sends her a poem in
the mail, leaves a rose in her car, photos in a picnic basket and in her
underwear in her gym bag. As the stress of an stalker lurking in the shadows
escalates, visions of a small child in a chicken coop that she’d had as a
teenager return. These visions seem so real that she worries that she’s losing
her mind.
Things turn from bad to worse when her niece, Dionne goes missing at the
Arizona State Fair Showgrounds. Stephani is frantic and will do anything and go
anywhere to find Dionne.
The stalker waits in the shadows and when Stephani is most vulnerable, he kidnaps
her. I won’t offer any spoilers and tell you what happens.
I almost felt sorry for the baddie ‘Pud’ as we come to understand why he is
the way he is. It’s not often the author fills us in on that part. I guess we
all have some good and some bad in us but we don’t cross the line to the dark
side.
This thriller had me reading into the night and I had to sleep with the
light on as it scared me so much.
I guess I’ll have to read O. N. Stefan’s first thriller The Deadly Caress
and see if it’s as good as this one.
