“Even Angels Fall” tells the story of Abbey Miller, an 18 year old girl who after losing her twin brother to suicide, is trying to find her way and move forward after suffering such a tragic loss. Struggling in her grief and feeling alone and confused she finds herself on a path of self discovery. She needs to figure out who she is and what she wants now that her situation is so radically different from the life she lived before. Feeling isolated from her family, Abbey meets and befriends three students at her new school who introduce her to their wider circle and Abbey suddenly finds herself living in a world she never imagined. A life of drink, drugs and parties - where nothing matters but having fun and getting high. She becomes incredibly close with the entire group as they slowly begin to take the place of her real family, but there is one person in particular who she becomes closest to; the dark and troubled Irishman, Alex Matthews.

“Even Angels Fall” is a story about family, friendship and loss, but at the heart of the book is the romance between the characters of Abbey and Alex. They grow closer, find a connection through their mutual struggles and eventually fall deeply in love, despite their obvious differences and the fact that their early lives and past experiences are worlds apart.

Abbey Miller

Abbey has always had a plan. She has always known where she wanted to be and how to get there. A straight ‘A’ student at her previous school she was academic, athletic, pretty, popular and had the world at her feet. She had a real sense of purpose and a strong self-belief, but could also be a little insecure at times too, which she masked with a good sense of humour. Her kindness and down to earth nature meant she had a loyal group of friends as well as a strong support group in a loving, middleclass family. But all that changed when the person she was closest to, took his own life. Her twin brother Ryan died and the family fell apart. Her Father left and Abbey, along with her Mum and older Brother, moved to Leeds to live closer to their Sister, throwing Abbey’s world into turmoil. Confused and isolated in a strange new place, the future that she was so certain of is slipping away from her and the only thing that feels real, that makes sense to her, is her new group of misfit friends and the beautiful but troubled Alex. She quickly finds herself falling head over heels in love with him, despite her feelings pulling her away from everything she has ever known.

Alex Matthews

Alex is in charge and in control of every aspect of his life. He commands respect with his attitude and demeanour and more often than not, he gets it. He is strong, focused and determined – driven by a desire never to struggle again the way he did through his early years. Losing his Mum at a very young age was incredibly painful, a pain which he dealt with by acting out, drinking, fighting and getting kicked out of school. He spent his teenage years drifting between various friends sofas and was finally kicked in to touch by his Mum’s brother, who gave him an ultimatum. At 16 he moved with his Uncle to Dublin and then a few years later on to London. Alex found regular work as a barman which quickly introduced him to the seedy underworld of drugs and drug dealers. He saw first hand exactly how much money was involved in that world and although knowingly breaking the law, he became a drug dealer himself, determined to rise up and live a better life than the one he had left behind. After his Uncles death, Alex moved to Leeds where he met a group of people who were to become his family. They brought out the fun, carefree side of him that he had lost for a while. Deep down Alex has a good heart, a kind, loving nature and a dry, sarcastic sense of humour. He cares deeply about his friends, but as a result of losing his only family and having an alcoholic, mainly absentee Father in his youth, he can be closed off, introvert, cautious and a little untrusting of people outside his close inner circle. That is of course, until a young, naïve and very beautiful girl called Abbey Miller walks into his life.
