It’s the typical problem of can’t-stay-broken-up-with-your-boyfriend-when-his-parents-go-missing. Okay, so it might not be typical but O’Ryan’s lovelife is knocked to the bottom of the priority list when a madman shows up wielding a knife. O’Ryan has to meet his demands, or everyone she cares about will be toast. The easy answer is to call the police, but when her boyfriend’s parents turn up dead, she realizes the man wasn’t kidding when he said not to involve law enforcement. She has to beat him at his own game because giving into his demands will make O’Ryan a criminal too.

Guest post and giveaway: Hugo and Rose by Bridget Foley @wonderfoley

Rose is by most qualifications an ordinary housewife, except for her dreams. Since childhood, she has always dreamt of the same island, with the same imaginary companion: a brave, heroic boy named Hugo. Rose’s own children now live for tales of Hugo and Rose’s adventures, battling giant spiders and bouncing on the pink sand of the Blanket Pavilion. And each night, after putting her sleepy children to bed, Rose escapes from the monotony of diapers and cracker crumbs to become a more perfect, fully-realized version of herself.

Until one day, Rose stumbles across Hugo in real life, and everything changes. Here is the man who truly knows her, who grew up with her, even if they aren’t what either one imagined. Their chance encounter begins a cascade of questions, lies, and a dangerous obsession that threatens to topple everything she knows. Is she willing to let go of everything she holds dear to understand their extraordinary connection? And will it lead her to discover who she truly wants to be?

Book review: A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer

14:21

Has a book ever made you feel so many things at once that you felt like rocking back and forth in a dark corner? That’s how I felt while reading A Child Called It

This book was gifted to me by a friend of my boyfriend. She had this pensive look on her face while she was handing it over, which confused me at first but is completely understandable now.

My copy is old and a bit battered which is incredibly fitting considering the subject matter.

The first few pages of A Child Called It were so horrific that I had go online to confirm that this book was a memoir and not a work of fiction.

Pharmdee: The Pill factory volume 1 by @phdanchor

How does man in a new country feel? What if non living things could walk, where would they go? What if inanimate things can wish? What would they wish for?

Two of children's favorite things to do is reading and telling stories. They have really short attention span so making them listen is really challenging especially if you want them to understand something really important. But what can be more fun learning about values than engaging them in a witty, adventurous and exciting tale?

Pharmdee: The Pill Factory Volume 1 brings you that! This children's book written by PhD Anchor, is an adventure series that will surely get you hooked in suspense with every chapter in each of its 26 volumes.

The story follows Nick, a man from early19th century England moved to the United States of America. He owns Barden Pill Factory that manufactures pills including Almo, a little and very much alive pill.

Almo, being able to escape, roams around the factory and meets several inanimate friends. As he wanders, he gets exposed to the thrilling yet shocking lives of pills. Now, Almo wants to grow bigger and stronger.

One day, as Nick was moving a cargo away on Mississippi river, he encounters Naval Air Station agents whom he promised to give 999 pills but there is a HUGE problem! One pill is missing -- and it's Almo!

Now, with one pill lost, what will happen to Nick? Will he be able to go back to the factory? What will become of Almo? Will he get his wish of growing bigger?

For sure, this book won't just introduce kids to fun characters and make them laugh, but it will also teach them values in a real creative and exciting way! The best thing is: Pharmdee: The Pill Factory Volume 1 is already available!

Discussion: Could the way you're reading be harming you?

reading positions and posture
Could the way we read be harming our health? It sounds dramatic but stop an and think about it. If you're like me you don't sit down to read a book for 5 or 10 mins. Book bloggers tend to marathon books. We squash ourselves into chairs and sit in really awkward positions for hours at a time.

There's been many a time that I've gotten up from a reading session only to almost fall over because I've been sitting in the one position for two long.

Summer is notoriously known as a time to relax in the garden, on the beach or by a pool with friends, family, a cocktail (or 6) and a good book. I don't know about anyone else, but I tend to get a lot more reading done in the summer when I can lounge around in my garden, without my laptop, television or meaningless chores to distract me.

dermier collagen serum review

I have been on steroids for the past 2 months and anyone who has ever taken them will know that they really mess with your skin. My skin was red and dry and needed a real boost

Dermier collagen serum comes in an attractive 30ml glass bottle. It comes with a dropper which insures that the product stays clean and hygienic.

A  little certainly goes a long way. 3-4 drops was enough to cover my entire face which means this product is also great value for money.

The story centers around jacks close nit family in the past and the present. Jacks is a multitasker. A real super woman. She runs the house while juggling a husband, two kids her mother who is suffering from Alzheimers. This really wasn't how Jacks imagined her life would be. When she was younger she imagined money and adventure but what she got was a life of putting everyone else before herself.

Catchpenny: Wicked Lover by Sarah Wathen @SWathen_Author

10:11

Click HERE to read an excerpt

On writing Catchpenny:

Have you ever wondered about that girl at the edge of the crowd? The one who has dark, bushy hair that hides her eyes while she’s reading, but tight shirts that don’t even try to hide the size of her breasts? You’ve heard the rumors, you know the rude nicknames, and you wonder what she really does when she’s not in school. She never comes to parties and she lives in a part of town to which you’d never venture. Everyone tries to ignore her…but there is something about her that’s impossible to ignore. Especially for the star quarterback, apparently. Because he just asked her to the Homecoming dance, after dumping the head cheerleader.

Catchpenny tells the story from the eyes of “that girl,” and Wicked Lover is just the beginning of this coming of age serial novel. The idea of this story came about as an off-shoot from The Bound Chronicles, and the Catchpenny protagonists have become some of my very favorite characters.

Bound…it has all an audience might look for in a good long read. Action–murder, maiming, and treachery. Love–passion, heartache, and longing. Drama–unfolding mystery, interwoven social connections, and twisting plot-lines. As much as I’ve enjoyed writing about Candy Vale and all her friends and enemies in Bound, the fact is I just can’t stuff everything into one story, especially in my small town Shirley County setting.

After I finished the first book in the series, The Tramp, and I awaited the return of my manuscript from my editor, thoughts naturally continued to blossom. I wondered about all those minor characters in The Tramp that I never expounded upon. What else happened in that classroom, at that game, at that dance? Who do the main characters mention in passing, that could be the most interesting?

That’s what Catchpenny is about, and it was such fun to write. Forget about all the intricate plot details and mysterious weavings of the Bound Chronicles. Catchpenny is a love story, plain and simple. I liked to call it an unabashed romance. Don’t think too hard–just enjoy.

That’s how I felt until I really got into the meat of it anyway! But, how can a teenage love story really end up simple? Catchpenny has blossomed into a full-scale, coming of age novel. In six parts.

Part One: Wicked Lover is scheduled for release July 1, 2015. Click here to get an email reminder when it comes out. Click HERE for an excerpt.

You may have noticed the dueling cover art at the top of the page? In the beginning, I had an online vote and the right side won. But, I still love the left painting and I just couldn’t let it die. It will live here at least, though the final results were in a long time ago…

3 Women Walk Into A Bar by @lindasands

10:21

3 women walk into a bar book

It might sound like a joke, but there's nothing funny about
three beautiful women murdered in an Irish pub in Syracuse.

The cops think it's an open and shut case, pointing the
finger at the dead guy with the gun, bar owner James John Smith. But when a
mother of one of the victims hires her lover, Bill "Free Willy"
Tedesco, an ex-stripper and karaoke star turned PI to investigate, the secrets
of the dead surface and the question of who pulled the trigger becomes more
important than why.

What readers are Saying:

Punchy, sharp, and awesome

Great novel--set in the present but pulls you back into the past.
